A Very Natural Thing (1974)

I came across this film because I downloaded the Russ Meyer's movie "Up!" while doing research of sexploitaion films. Up! is a very silly sex movie that wasn't very good, but had this dreamy man in it by the name of Robert McLane:

I was trying to find out more about him, but the wiki article for Up! links to this soldier guy from like the 1800s... Eventually I found out his name is Robert Joel actually and that he did this movie called "A Very Natural Thing" where he plays a gay ex-monk... !!! Needless to say I had to find it!

I searched around for a while and finally came upon a copy of it on a gay torrent site!

I had a sit down with the movie today and was very pleased I did. The movie follows an ex-monk, David (the very sexy Robert Joel) who moves to New York to be a teacher by day and try to find a partner at a gay club by night. At the club he meets Mark and the two hookup for the night. Mark and David decide to see each other more and eventually end up moving in together ("getting married" as they say). Things are going great until Mark realizes he doesn't want to be tied down like a married straight couple and begins exploring the bath-house world. Mark tries to get David into the bath scene, but David knows he's meant to be with someone who wants only him. The movie is a very bittersweet look at the relationship of these two men and does a nice job being honest about it. The dialogue is a bit straighforward at times, but for a film in 1974 it's very groundbreaking. The movie contains scenes of the 1973 Pride Parade in New York which are lovely and nicely placed. All in all it was a very good movie and I'd definiely recommend trying to grab a copy sometime. This film was the first mainstream gay film and it didn't hold back at all, there's some great nudity throughout (some of which is very sexy slow motion running).

And to finish it off, here's another shot of Robert Joel! Yum, the 70s sure were sexy!

Sadly Robert Joel died in 1992... Rest in Peace dear man, I'm very thankful that you stood up for my rights and future!

It's alright! (Yeah it was alright!)

You betcha!

Hello loves! How art thou? I've been having a relaxing day at home putting the finishing touches on my application for a grant to write a screenplay and feel really good about it. I really want to start conceptualizing this story more (Captain Native America) but first I need to get back to work on my hooker werewolf feature and complete that first. So right now, I'm just waiting for my lover to get home from work so I can venture out and mail off my application (the rain outside is scaring me and he has my car)

Yesterday was my birthday, Saturday was my party, and it was a really fun weekend! I worked Saturday, then ventured out to Davie street where we ate dinner at Moxies (more like drank a lot, really) and then had a blast dancing the night away at The Odyssey! A bunch of great people came out for the evening and I felt really blessed to know them all.

Friday was spent in Squamish with Taylor and two of his fellow Paramedic buddies, Ryan and Martin (pronounced en francais "Mar-Tawn"). We ventured around and saw some really pretty areas:

Including a 1000 year old tree!!!

It was a jolly good day and, afterwards, we went to see "How to Train Your Dragon" a super cute movie that I'd recommend checking out! I felt the whole thing was a really nice allegory for queer culture (probably not meant to be) but as a gay boy it meant a lot! Check out this ADORABLE poster! <3

Dreamworks is finally catching up, in caliber, to Pixar!

On Thursday I got to see my LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY friend beric for a short, but sweet, breakfast date on Commercial Drive (notice I don't call it "the drive") He and I went to Capilano College together for film and he's back there again right now working on his next short film! For some wonderful examples of beric's genius watch this and this! He's gonna be HUGE someday, so check him out so you can say you knew him when! <3 I'm super excited whenever he's working on something because I KNOW it's always going to be amazing!

Right now I'm kinda obsessed with "Rock and Roll" by "The Runaways"! I wish they'd redone this for the movie! <3

That's all for now you sexy things!

With Love,
Tyrel!

KETCHUP TIME!!!

Oh dear, oh dear... Where does time go? Okay here we go time to play catch up!

FRIDAY
I went to see two movies with the boyfriend and sister. First we saw "The Ghost Writer" which was a surpisingly awesome treat. Polanski really got me back in the "Chinatown" feel and I found myself in love with the movie (except maybe the very end, which I felt was a bit too much like one of Dan Brown's  "Robert Langdon Mystery Club" scenarios) The performances and dialogue throughout were just too freaking wonderful and it made me curse the trailer a bit.
After that we watched "The Runaways" (this year's bio-pic) and I kinda loved it. It's a silly garbage movie that doesn't really have a point, although some would argue "girl-power" or "without them..." is the point, but calm down, I liked it, alright? Again, it really is garbage, but it has some pretty cool performances (mainly Dakota Fanning's kick ass take on Cherie Currie, but also Kristen Stewart who doesn't stutter once!) and I never once found myself bored and it is fucking crazy the shit they actually did for that time (and even now, really, I mean Cherie was SIXTEEN!!!).

SATURDAY
I had to work, but afterwards Tay and I went to dinner at Red Robin (gotta love the endless fries!) and then went to see "Repo Men", I think needless to say it wasn't my idea and it was bad... The movie plays like snippets of good action movies thrown into a blender and pureed into shit... It has elements taken from every action movie pretty much, but main highlights were Blade Runner, Pulp Fiction, Old Boy and Lock Stock... Instead of heading out to this one, you should just spend the $12 renting the old releases it tries so hard to emulate...

SUNDAY
I worked and Tay went to family dinner. I also got to work on my application to get a grant from the government to write a screenplay called "Captain (Native) America"! I'm super excited to write it and hope I can maybe even get funded next year to make it myself!

MONDAY & TUESDAY
Didn't do much... Had to go to effing ICBC and pay $300 before my birthday because I got two speeding tickets in a 12 month period, even though one was Oct 2008 and the other was August 2009, lame I know... So anyways I went to the shit-hole fifth layer of hell that is the Surrey ICBC office and had to wait 45 mins to pay the stupid thing. Their system is effing ridiculous! You get there and they give you a number and a lettered card:

Then they say "NEXT!" I'm sorry, but I don't understand right away so QUEEN BITCH:
Shouts that the number will be called in sequence, but since my task is quick and easy they might call the letter sooner... They didn't call the letter... So we just sat there and waited the 45 mins while queen bitch did nothing but stare off into space at her stupid computer and trashy people gathered around... I had to delouse myself afterwards because I was afraid this rug (held under some girl's hair) sent it's residents my way looking for shelter on my scalp!
I kid... I kid... But seriously, the colors didn't even match on the extensions... I'm such a cunt!

TODAY
I was supposed to hang with my pal beric after Tay went to work, but our schedules confucked a bit, so we're going to try again tomorrow. Instead, I went downtown with Tay and got my tax form from VFS (the one I've been waiting on for 3 weeks now) and finally filed them taxes. Got an okay return, will be using it to pay back my sister for the $300 at ICBC. <3 her for always being there when I need help!

So there we have it, I'm gonna be 24 on Sunday (party on Saturday night).

Thanks for reading loves,
Tyrel

It's twilight...

Prologue - The Obvious Wording of Edward Cullen...
That's right Edward, it is... Ha ha! I found this little gem in Twilight: The Graphic Novel at Chapters today... But first, let's rewind and discover how I got there in the first place. (I am so Stephanie Meyer, right now!)

Chapter One - Breakfast... with my Mother!
I woke up early this morning next to my (vampire) lover, Taylor. He nibbled on my ear playfully until I opened my eyes.

"Morning sleepy head..." He whispered, "it's time to get up, or we'll be late..."

"Late for what?" and then I remembered breakfast, with my mother!

I shot out of bed and ran for the shower. Ten (okay, maybe 15) minutes later I was dressed and ready.

HOLD UP!

Okay, this shit is getting nauseating already. So anyway, I woke up for an early breakfast with my mother, sister, and (vampire) boyfriend. We went to IHOP and I ate the entire shop in one bite. I was super full when we got home so Taylor suggested we do something active.

We decided a bike-ride made most sense considering we bought the stupid things, so off we went... Destination: METROTOWN MALL! We headed out on the old dusty (bike) trail and enjoyed the sunshine and warm breeze along the way! At Metrotown we went to Starbucks (for coffee), Winners (for sexy underwear), Fresh Slice (for pizza), and Chapters (for books).

Speaking of Fresh Slice, it's this BRILLIANT pizza chain across BC that I am just in love with and think someday I should do a post on...

Anyway, here are some snapshots of today's journey...

I'm a drifter... okay?
YAY! Bike bridges are so COOL!
Awww! Taylor on the bridge!
My boyfriend's a dirtbiker?
Metrotown Mall
Awwww!

AND FINALLY...

Found in Chapters... Edward Cullen with cum in his eyebrow?

Death of the Dead...?

No, this isn't a picture from some updated version of "Thriller" it's from George A. Romero's latest zombie piece "Survival of the Dead", and a piece is exactly what I found it to be.

The film follows a few familiar characters from Romero's last film "Diary of the Dead", a film I had high hopes for and found only 5 minutes of it to be really relevant, as well as some new ones. The setting this time is Plum Island, a small remote island run by two feuding Irish families, the O'Flynn's and the Muldoon's. The feud is a child-like "I'm right, you're wrong" argument that seems to have been going on since Elementary School, and this time it's about zombies! O'Flynn thinks the zombies should be killed right away and Muldoon wants to try and teach them to eat other kinds of meat, not humans. Anyway, the army assholes from "Diary of the Dead" (remember those guys who rob the RV at that one part) show up and agree with O'Flynn so they start a killing spree. Meanwhile, Muldoon's having trouble controlling the zombies (REALLLLLLY?) and has had to kill a bunch of them and O'Flynn's daughter (now a zombie) is riding her horse all around the island...

The plot just gets sillier from there including the introduction of O'Flynn's other daughter Jane, Janet's TWIN who was never mentioned before.

Da'fuck Romero, Da'fuck! What kinda garbarge is this? I mean I had my doubts because Diary was pretty crappy too, but at least that had the poignant end scene about how sick humanity is even to zombies...

But Family Feuds about Zombies??? Really??? IRISH FAMILY FEUDS ON ISLANDS OUTSIDE DELAWARE??? DA'FUCK?????

Dear Romero,
Here's something that a family should REALLY Feud about!

Sigh... If Diary of the Dead wasn't the death of the dead... then this is... :(

What the...?

Damn it Jim! I'm a (writer)... Not a (phone jockey)!

Today I was sad. I sat at my desk at work and thought about my life goals. Sure, they've changed once or twice and had to be rearranged a bit, but damn it! I'm a (writer) not a (phone jockey)! I don't mean to be ungrateful for my current job or anything, I just mean that it's time for a change!

I graduated Vancouver Film School in August 2009 and haven't done much since! My goal was supposed to be "get something produced before you're 25" and as the days go by I find myself with little over a year to do that... What has been stopping me all this time? What's standing in my way? Fear!

But that's it! I'm gonna go Donnie Darko on your asses and say "I'm not afraid anymore!" No, today Taylor texted me to tell me about some positions opening up for first aid transport at a company that rejected him in the past, he wanted to know if he should try his luck and risk the rejection again. I told him "there's no risk associated with rejection, it's not like declined credit. Everything was accomplished by trying..." Super motivational speaker of me, I know, but it's true. If he doesn't try, he obviously won't get it.

Then I had to turn around and point that stinking finger at myself... I realized that I've been whittling away at my next writing project and not doing a thing about my completed ones because I am afraid of rejection myself.

But what is that going to do? How is a silly rejection going to harm me? If anything, won't it just make me that much stronger? Won't I learn what to do better for next time? Won't I learn how to recraft my work and make it the best it can be?

I think I know the answer to those damn questions and shall suck it up! I'm going for it and shall start submitting what I have and finishing what I've started! Make room, Make room! I'm a writer!

Love ya lots,
Tyrel

PS - When searching for a Fear Street cover I came across this...

It means nothing to you, right now, but it made me laugh because I remembered this gem from my childhood, "Wrong Number" by Tyrel Boelsma ( CoverPage 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , Back Cover) . I wrote a little story that my classmates adored (a silly little "Scream" knock off). The best part is page 4 when the killer is talking to Julie it originally said "Lock your windows, Lock your doors, cause I'm coming you stupid whores!" and if you look close on the page you can still read it! ha ha! I watched WAY too many horrors as a kid! I think what I'm saying is... I'm secretly R.L. Stine...

Prom Night... Everything is alright!

I got Taylor to sit down and watch my favorite horror movie (next to Halloween and Carrie), Prom Night! This perfect little gem was gifted to me in the form of a Pawn Shopped VHS tape my parents got me when I was young and sick at home one day, they purchased it in a 3 for $10 deal along with A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (the only Freddy movie our local video store didn't have) and P.K. and the Kid (my sister was on a Molly Ringwald kick at the time).

I was blown away (and still kind of am) by the gorgeously laid out plot of this. It's nothing special by regular film standards, but for a horror movie, it's tremendous.

The story begins with 4 children playing "Killer's are Coming" (a deranged game of tag/hide-and-go-seek) in an abandoned school. Kim Hammond (played later by Jamie Lee Curtis) and her two twin siblings, Robin and Alex, pass by seeing them, Kim has to go back to school to get her textbook leaving Robin and Alex alone. Robin decides to go play as Alex heads home. Inside the abandoned school Robin accidentally falls from a window and dies, the 4 friends vow never to talk about the incident again. 6 years pass and we find out that a disfigured man was put away for the murder and has now escaped. It's prom night at the local high school and all 4 friends recieve an obscene phone call asking them to "come out to play"...

It's simple, but throughout it you're always wondering what's going to happen next. The plot plays out like a combination of Halloween and Carrie (as mentioned above) and the conclusion is extremely satisfying. If you've not yet checked it out, please do so now. You can find it on YouTube or Torrents and you won't be disappointed!

Oh, and the disco music/dancing is also amazing! <3

Love ya lots,
Tyrel!

Ebony's reaction to Twilght: Eclipse trailer... NSFW!

Ha ha ha! I'm pleased to present to you Ebony's reaction to Twilight: Eclipse trailer!

Is Diana Gabaldon Homophobic?

As I get closer and closer to the end of this book I can't help but be offended by what feels like deliberate homophobia throughout it. First, the evil bad guy of the book turns out to be homosexual and a rapist of both sexes. I was a little bit annoyed by this fact but thought "whatever it's silly to be upset over a bad guy being gay, I'd be no better than that Basic Instinct and Silence of the Lambs controversies of the early 90s" But as I carried on through the book I found that another bad guy is gay and once again a rapist! Seriously! Jamie (the heroine's husband in the story) has been the attempted rape victim of both on more than one occasion! The characters have harsh views towards the homos, which is to be expected in 1700s but I feel that the idea placed throughout that all gays are bad and rapists is a very harsh one. I'm hoping the series will fix this viewpoint as I continue, but as far as the first book goes, I'm very near done and getting quite upset!

Just a warning to anyone who might be wanting to pick this one up... I'll keep you updated as I carry on.

Love ya lots,
Tyrel!

A place I've loved since I was a child can now be loved by you... wherever you are!

Hello loves!
When I was young I had a love of books! I would enjoy reading series a lot, like Narnia, Howliday Inn, and Ramona Quimby books, and needed a place where I could not only get them, but get them at a reasonable price. We weren't the richest back then, and only being able to get one book a year at the annual Scholastic Book Fair just wasn't going to cut it. I, of course, loved my school library to death... But I've always been a collector by nature. Anyway, I was lucky enough to grow up in Chilliwack, BC, the home of "The Book Man" (formerly "The Book Nook") and found that I was able to fulfill my hunger for both novels and Archie Comics to my heart's content!

It is and always has been a wonderful and friendly little shop full of wonderfully organized and well priced books! If you're ever in Chilliwack I'd HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend taking a peak in there, you WON'T be disappointed!

"But wait! Doesn't the title of this post say 'can now be loved by you... wherever you are!'?" You ask! Oh, why yes, yes it does. Phew! Good thing you asked!

So, the other day I was lucky enough to get Taylor a WONDERFUL present off ebay, a signed first edition copy of Douglas Adams' Last Chance to See ! Taylor is a HUGE Douglas Adams fan and I've been slowly working on collecting up the books he doesn't yet have and replacing the ones he does with their hardcover versions. We're very close to having them all now... thanks to The Book Man!

You see, The Book Man now has their entire catalogue available to view online! You can search by author, title, or ISBN and find out if they have exactly what you're looking for! (and most of the time they do!)

"Well that's good and dandy for you Tyrel, you live only a freaking hour away, but I'm not going to travel all the way to Chilliwack from Kingston, Ontario no matter how good their selection is! Are you crazy?"

Whoa, whoa! You didn't let me finish there partner! The best thing about The Book Man being online is that you can order the books and have them shipped to you! The gorgeous catalogue of nearly half a million titles is open for you to browse/buy at your hearts content! I found a copy of Douglas Adams' Starship Titanic (hardcover) and Douglas Adams' The Deeper Meaning of Liff (which is VERY difficult to find nowadays)completing our collection!

Seriously, take a trip over to http://www.bookman.ca/ and find what you're looking for! <3 God, I love technology!

Love ya lots,
Tyrel

I'm not feeling so hot today...

BLEH! I kept waking up throughout the night with a headache and stomache issues so I stayed home from work today. Ugh! I hate calling in sick to my new job because you have to have this big long talk about it with your manager when you go back to work... It's very strange indeed... but such is life, I'm not going to go be uncomfortable at work when I have sick days available to me...

Taylor's working tonight, so I'm alone at home and think I'll just rest away while watching TV or something, lazy day's fix everything!

Perhaps I'll write actually... I do need to get back to my script so I can finish it, shop it around, and move onto the next one.

I keep getting really good ideas of what to write next and keep forgetting to write them down >:( I think my next one will be a comedy though, a simple rom-com type movie (... that's fucked up of course!)

I'd also like to get around to shopping around the script I wrote for school... Hmmmm, I think I shall get back to work on those... Adios for now!

Love ya lots,
Tyrel!

Night of the living Gaga's Telephone and She's Out of My League!

First off we have to interrupt this review to bring you a review of Gaga's newly released "Telephone" video!

WOW! What the eff was that? Verrrrrrrry pretty and fun indeed! The little cutie is trying to be Tarantino this time, love the bitch to death! I still don't rank it higher than Gaga's last video for "Bad Romance" where the little miss wanted to be Kubrick and blew me away with her gorgeous styles! Ummm, not a lot more that I have to say, loved it, but didn't outdo Bad Romance for me!

...

So, back to our program
...

Tonight I went to an advanced screening of "She's Out of My League" and enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would. The plot is silly and simple, but I enjoyed myself none-the-less. Jay Baruchel is always fun and I was reminded of that YTV series "My Hometown" where I first saw him, awwww! The movie is a hell of a lot more adult than I was expecting too, there was a crapload of swearing and that usually makes for more entertaining! My main problem with the movie (and I mean NO OFFENSE here) is that the continuously call the love interest girl (played by Alice Eve) a 10. I don't know... Am I alone in thinking she's a very pretty girl, but more like a 7 (maybe 8)? It's not a big deal, I just don't buy that every guy in the entire airport would be flabbergasted to see her/talk to her. I'd be like "Oh, there's that pretty plain girl..." But that's just me. Anyways it's a fun movie, verrrrrrrrrrrry simple, but entertaining none-the-less and I'd recommend taking a peak at it (but probably rent it...)

Love ya lots,

Tyrel

*Shaking my head...*

Taylor posted this. He thinks it's the funniest thing since the idea of God. I videoed his reaction, so stay tuned... I just might post it!

Today we DID get to bike ride after all! The weather cleared up and we had a jolly good time getting groceries and stopping by the library.

We're gonna need a new bike lock though... it's hard to lock up 2 together.

Tonight I'm going to see "She's Out of My League" with Angela (my sister), she won tickets to the advance screening and invited me along. I'll post my thoughts later...

Right now I'm off to dinner with Tay and Angela before the movie. <3

Love ya lots,
Tyrel!

Advert-IS-ment! The BF's Blog!

So Taylor has started blogging too, you can read about his (which usually means mine too) exploits here! And don't worry I'll be designing something fierce for his banner soon!

EDIT!!! Banner is now up and super cute/funny! EDIT!!!

Team Mike

Dear Bella,
Drop those supernatural fucks and go for the hero to your right... TEAM MIKE! Indeed!

So... Here's the Twilight: Eclipse Trailer...

So... it's finally here kids...

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse: THE TRAILER

After the 10-second teaser dropped yesterday I'm sure you were all creaming your pants for my fellow Injun and child actor, Taylor Lautiner... Well, I'm sure you'll have ample opportunity to scream as he walks around shirtless for this next movie which doesn't appear to have anything about the Seattle Vampire Army or the gigantic fight... Stay tuned for my reaction video.

Taylor and I decided to watch and react... ENJOY! <3

Rain... Rain... Go FUCK OFF!

Grrrrrr! Stupid fucking weather always taking a shit on me >:( Was supposed to go for a bike ride today but my bike doesn't have fenders and I don't feel like getting soaked. So instead love the song I love from Timbaland's Shock Value II...

Tales of Too Much Sex, Too Little Adventure... (AKA Outlander by Diana Gabaldon)

Have you read this one? Oh my! If not, I'd... well I'd recommend it, but at the same time I wouldn't. It's a very interesting and fun story so far, but MY GOODNESS is there ever a lot of overplayed sex throughout it.

The story follows Claire, an army nurse in 1945-ish, who, while on vacation with her husband, accidentally stumbles through a stone portal into 1700's Scotland and has to live her life there for a while. It's quite a bit of fun so far (over halfway through and suspect I'll be done in a day or so) and has such a wonderfully addicting storyline through it... for the most part.

My main beef with this story is the ridiculous amount of sex digression throughout. Just when you start to get antsy about what's to come you're forced to sit through 5 pages of the author describing ridiculous sex that would make V.C. Andrews blush... FROM THE GRAVE!

Excerpt:
"No!" I gasped. "Stop, please, you're hurting me!" Beads of sweat ran down his face and dropped on the pillow and on my breasts. Our flesh met now with the smack of a blow that was fast crossing the edge into pain. My thighs were bruising with the repeated impact, and my wrists felt as though they would break, but his grip was inexorable.

"Aye, beg me for mercy, Sassenach. Ye shallna have it, though; not yet." His breath came hot and fast, but he showed no signs of tiring. My entire body convulsed, legs rising to wrap around him, seeking to contain the sensation.

I could feel the jolt of each stroke deep in my belly, and cringed from it, even as my hips rose traitorously to welcome it. He felt my response, and redoubled his assault, pressing now on my shoulders to keep me pinned under him.

There was no beginning and no end to my response, only a continuous shudder that rose to a peak with each thrust. The hammering was a question, repeated over and over in my flesh, demanding my answer. He pushed my legs flat again, and bore me down past pain and into pure sensation, over the edge of surrender.

"Yes!" I cried. "Oh God, Jamie, yes!" He gripped my hair and forced my head back to meet his eyes, glowing with furious triumph.

And the sex continues from there for like 2 pages. The book is quite lengthy and could probably easily be halfed with the removal of all this crazy sex shit...

Don't get me wrong, I LOOOOOOVE sex as much as the next guy, girl, or animal, but SERIOUSLY! I have a lot of sex, but manage to find time to have a healthy balance of adventure time in there too!

Am I alone in this one? Thoughts?

Anyway, I'd say read the book but if you find yourself getting bored just jump ahead a bit, you won't miss too much, it's like missing a soap opera for a week... You're only out 10 minutes of story time.

Love ya,
Tyrel!

Taylor, Taylor, give me an answer do...

I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you,
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'll look so sweet, upon the seat
of a bicycle built for two...

So, to keep up with Taylor's hobbies once again (previously it's been rock climbing and book collecting) I purchased a bike today! It's gorgeous and orange! Feast your peepers on this one!

Love ya,

Tyrel

Hello daddy, hello mom, I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!

I'm baaaaack!
And this time I mean it. I have the internet and feel it's high time I started blogging again.

10-Second catch-up! Since we last heard from Tyrel, he's graduated VFS, been working on a script about a hooker werewolf, has a job at a Burnaby call centre, and has moved into a New Westminster apartment with his boyfriend Taylor.

So, that's that, not much else happening here...

Taylor's about to start school again to become a paramedic and I'm hoping to get this script done so I can shop it around. I'll give you a tour of the apartment soon so you can see my mega book collection and such, but that's just too many pictures for my liking right now.

No, until then I'll leave you with this:

Think about THAT when you watch the disgrace that is Tim Burton's Hot Topic Opus! <3

Love you,
Tyrel
